QC Charity Golf Invitational

Wow! The academic year is coming to a close in about a month and a half. I’m sure many of the tenants living in our Cornell student rentals have already begun making plans for the summer. Hopefully, the vaccination process stays on track over the next few months. Then we should be able to look forward to a relatively normal summer!

There are so many ways to enjoy yourself during the summer. Whether on vacation with family or with friends, or relaxing at home, there’s just so much to do! Maybe you will be participating in some summer recreational sports, that are resuming after a near two-year hiatus. Or perhaps you’ll choose to dedicate some of your time to a charitable cause.

Well, assuming most of you will be in Ithaca the second to last weekend in August moving into your Ithaca collegetown rental, there’s a fantastic event happening that combines both sports and charity!

The QC Invitational

The QC Invitational is a charity golf tournament to raise awareness of, and funds to combat and research Distal Arthrogryposis. Distal Arthrogryposis is a condition that causes joint contractures and muscle weakness in the shoulders, wrist, hands, hips, knees, and feet. The ailment is relatively rare, but still affects more than 200,000 people in the United States. Still, no cure has been found for the disease.

The mother and father of a boy who was diagnosed with Distal Arthrogryposis at 6 months old started this particular event. His name, Quinten Cruz, is the reason for the “QC” in name of The QC Invitational. The hope of his parents is to raise knowledge about the disease to help those afflicted by it in the future. Funds are being raised to be donated to the nonprofit organization Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita Support, Inc. (AMSCI).

The event is being held at Stonehedges Golf Course, in Groton, NY. You can find more information and more ways to get involved on the event website.

Whether or not you can participate in this event, please try to do at least one charitable thing and at least one active thing this summer!
